iLEAP Approval Now Available to All Implementers
The iLEAP Secretariat is pleased to announce the official launch of iLEAP Approval, a new service that helps organizations demonstrate that their software implementations conform to the iLEAP Technical Specifications and can exchange logistics emissions data in a consistent and interoperable way.
Following its development, testing, and piloting throughout the first half of 2026, the rollout phase of the service has been successfully completed. iLEAP Approval is now available to all eligible organizations seeking independent confirmation of their iLEAP implementation.
Building Trust in Logistics Emissions Data Exchange
The logistics industry is moving beyond aggregated carbon reporting toward more granular emissions data at shipment, lane, and product level. At the same time, regulatory requirements and customer expectations are increasing the demand for transparent and traceable emissions information across supply chains. This trend makes data exchange between shippers, carriers, logistics service providers, and technology providers increasingly important.
iLEAP addresses this challenge by enabling peer-to-peer exchange of logistics emissions data between independent systems through a common open standard. iLEAP Approval helps organizations demonstrate that their implementations adhere to the protocol. In other words, they can exchange data consistently, following iLEAP, and interoperably with other participants in the ecosystem.
iLEAP Approval complements existing Smart Freight Centre approval activities, by focusing specifically on the implementation of the iLEAP data model and exchange protocol.
From Pilot to Service
During Q1 and Q2 2026, the iLEAP Secretariat worked closely with early adopters to pilot the service, refine testing procedures, and validate the approval process. This work was followed by a rollout phase designed to prepare the service for broader industry adoption. With the completion of the rollout phase, iLEAP Approval is now officially available to the wider market.
First iLEAP Approved Solutions
Three solutions providers have successfully completed the approval process and have become the first iLEAP Approved implementations:
These approvals demonstrate that logistics emissions data can be exchanged seamlessly across different systems when they are built on a common, open standard.
Trusted Emissions Data Exchange at Scale
iLEAP is an open-source protocol for peer-to-peer exchange of logistics emissions data across supply chain actors. Developed jointly by Smart Freight Centre and SINE Foundation, iLEAP provides a common data model and exchange protocol aligned with the GLEC Framework and ISO 14083. It enables organizations to exchange trusted emissions information directly between independent systems without requiring bespoke integrations.
iLEAP Approval represents an important step in building a more interoperable ecosystem for logistics emissions data. By independently assessing implementations against the iLEAP Technical Specifications, the service helps organizations exchange emissions data with greater consistency, reliability, and confidence.
Organizations interested in obtaining iLEAP Approval can contact the iLEAP Secretariat for more information on eligibility requirements and the approval process.
